A great hangout for food and with friends – Greyhound Café at Siam Center

One café that I will visit whenever I’m in Bangkok is Greyhound Café, an extension of the Thai fashion brand Greyhound. Serving an array of international and Thai cuisines, Greyhound Café is a crowd favourite. Not only that they served great food, the café has created an excellent atmosphere to dine and hang out with friends. A strong evidence of its success is that many locals actually patron the café.

My all-time favourite at the café is the fried chicken wings.  The chicken winglet is first chopped into two small pieces before the meat is marinated and fried. I guess that they actually use fish sauce to marinate the chicken meat to give the winglets a salty flavour. The savoury appetiser is so addictive that I can eat that non-stop.

The prawn bisque is a must-have for those who enjoy a good prawn broth.  Greyhound Café’s prawn bisque is so good that it’s comparable to what’s being served in high-end restaurants in Bangkok. Even though I do not eat crustaceans, I was told by my friend, who was dining with me, that the broth is packed with a strong prawn flavour. You can also find prawn pieces in the bisque.

The noodle with braised beef (soup) is well executed too.  I particularly enjoy the tender braised beef and rice noodles (bee hoon).  Some people might find the soup a tad salty but I’m absolutely fine with the flavour.

The café is doing very well and they seem to be opening more branches.  I was at the newly opened Siam Center branch recently as the Siam Paragon outlet undergoes renovation work. Be prepared to wait for at least 30 minutes for a table during peak hours.  I will definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. Alternatively, you can go to the café physically and leave your name with the host. Meantime, go shopping at the recently revamped Siam Center. You definitely do not want to go shopping for clothing after the meal.  You might get a rude shock to discover that your waistline has expanded after the hearty meal.
