I was so glad that I could finally rest my tired feet and soul after 7 hours of three connecting flights from Moscow to Frankfurt. I was particularly overjoyed when I arrived at Hilton Frankfurt Airport Hotel especially after having squeezed myself in the economy class of an European airline (not to mention that the airline still uses the old and small MD aircraft).

I had a 12-hour overnight layover before my next flight to New York. I decided to check in to Hilton Frankfurt Airport Hotel to have a rest. It took me a while to find my way from the terminal to the airport hotel. But the search was not in vain.

There are two Hiltons locating within the same vicinity – Hilton Frankfurt Airport Hotel (the one that I was staying at) and Hilton Garden Inn.  The latter is older and it’s just besides the newer one-year old Hilton Frankfurt Airport Hotel.

The Hilton Frankfurt Airport Hotel is situated in the iconic ‘The Squaire’ building. The contemporary and minimalist design of the hotel is very striking and appealing. I was impressed with the hotel’s tall, spacious and bright atrium.

Executive Lounge

When I got my room, it was slightly after 8pm.  As I was hungry, I quickly went to the executive lounge to have some light finger food before the end of cocktail hours. The staff was already clearing the food counter but was kind enough to allow me to take some food first. Internet access is available throughout the lounge.  There are a couple of PCs in the lounge for guests’ use.

Comfy Bedroom

I kind of regretted not booking an extra night with the iconic hotel.  This is because the well-designed room is so comfy. I only had less than 5 hours sleep before I had to check out at 6am for my early morning flight the following day. I promised myself if I were to come back to Frankfurt, I would at least stay a couple days longer in this property.

Convenient location

The airport hotel is located above the InterCity Express (ICE) railway station and is only 15 minutes away from Frankfurt city centre.  Hence, it’s very convenient to travel down to the downtown Frankfurt.  But since my stay was so short, I didn’t bother to.

Fitness Centre

The gym is at the top floor is shared between the two Hilton hotels.  Although it’s rather big, I do expect it to be very crowded during the peak hours.  When I got there at about 9.30pm, there were a number of guests using the cardio and weight machines. There are steam room and sauna in the fitness centre.  But be warned, nudity is permitted in the shared facilities.  So don’t be shocked when you see a naked member of the opposite sex seated in the same sauna!

I didn’t get to try the restaurant in the hotel as I checked in late and had to leave before it was opened.

Overall, I really like the Hilton Frankfurt Airport Hotel. I expect myself to stay there instead of the city centre if I have more nights in the city.
